Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot

The Thoth Tarot was created by the famous occultist Aleister Crowley (1875-1974). Crowley poured the entire content of his magical mind into his tarot and incorporated the latest discoveries in science, mathematics, philosophy and anthropology.

Aleister Crowley is often described as the most advanced and influential occultist of the twentieth century. He was an extraordinary man whose ideas have profoundly affected modern occultism. His life's work was an attempt to synthesize the diverse teachings of the world's religions by extracting the essential kernel of truth shared by them and developing a system of attainment suitable to modern humanity's search for God-realisation. He called his system "Scientific Illuminism."

Lady Frieda Harris (1877-1947) painted the tarot cards. Although Lady Harris knew little about tarot and its symbolism, under the guidance of Crowley she transposed all subtleties of his ideas into her paintings. Many a card was painted in several versions, until one of them was approved by Crowley.

The Crowley Thoth Tarot took over five years to be completed. It was first published in 1969, after the death of both Crowley and Lady Harris.
