Kali is depicted in Mahakali on this rainbow coloured, hand printed batik. Here she has four arms, holding a severed head and the wheel of time. Kali represents destruction but also regeneration, in the natural process of Kala (time).
In Hindi, Kali means “the black one." This can be interpreted in a number of ways. Kali has a dark and forbidding nature which could be thought of as black. She is also capable of swallowing the world up in blackness, eliminating and dissolving all human distinctions. Despite her fearsome connotations, she is today considered the goddess of time and change.
Kali is revered and worshipped as an aspect of the Universal Mother Goddess.
Rainbow batiks are hand-printed and painted. Rainbow batiks are approximately 2.5 ft by 4 ft.
Please note that as this is a hand finished product, colours may vary from those pictured
Due to the nature of the hand printing techniques used in India, there may be natural variations in design and some double printing may occur, however this does not detract from the beautiful finish of this batik.
